Hi, Thanks for stopping by. This post will show you how to crochet a leaf – a nice beginners easy pattern with a video too!
This really is a simple easy design, that uses minimal stitches to achieve the curved effect.
If you can chain, single crochet, Half double crochet, double crochet (USA Terms) – you can make this leaf.

This leaf is super simple, and uses the number of Yarn Overs (YO) you do for each stitch, to change the height of the stitch, which gives it its curve. The reducing the number of Yarn Overs to make the curve come back down again (See the bulge in the middle?)

Beginners Crochet Leaf Pattern
You will need:
Yarn – and an appropriate sized hook for the yarn. (I’ve used DK yarn and 4 mm)
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Abbreviations (USA Terms)
Ch – Chain – YO pull over hook
SC – Single crochet – Through loop, YO, Pull back through, YO, pull through both loops
Half Double crochet – YO, through loop, Pull back through, YO, pull back through all 3 loops on the hook.
Double crochet – YO, through loop, Pull back through, YO, pull back through the top 2 loops the hook, YO, pull back through all the loops on your hook.

Ch 9, in the second chain from the hook, SC.
Working back along the chain, make in order, HDC, DC, 2 DC, DC, HDC, SC. (You should be at the end of you chain now.
And have a half wave. You are now going to work back along the other side of the chain, doing exactly the same sts.
SC, HDC, DC, 2 DC, Dc, HDC, SC – Slip to join and fasten off and weave in ends.
