I have a great garment for you today, a crochet chunky sweater pattern, that is really quick and easy to make. Fun fact, in UK we call sweaters, jumpers, so this is a chunky jumper too!
This is a perfect beginners project using only basic stitches, and really quick.
chunky yarn = quick crochet
This jumper works up in no time, as the key to this design was the yarn, as it’s a super bulky weight yarn. And I adore super bulky yarn!
This design is written up for sizes XS through to 3XL.
How do you crochet a chunky sweater?
This chunky crochet sweater is really easy, I mean super easy, and perfect for beginners.
It’s made from a front and a back, which are crochet rectangles, and then the sleeves, which are also crochet rectangles.
So as long as you can work in crochet in straight lines you’ll easily be able to make this chunky sweater
Simple really!
What stitches do you need to know to crochet a chunky sweater?
My design as a I’ve said before, is super easy to crochet.
You’ll need to know
- How to make a slip knot
- How to Foundation Double Crochet
- Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet
- Double Crochet
- Fasten off, weave in ends.
There are actually 2 options for this sweater, as it was first released in Crochet Now Magazine as a heart jumper called “Loving the jumper” which you can read more about here.

How do you crochet a super bulky yarn sweater?
To crochet a super bulky yarn sweater, you’ll need some super bulky.
Did you know in the UK we call super bulky yarn, super chunky yarn too?
There are loads of different brands of Super bulky yarn.
For this design I used
But you could also use in USA based (as we all know shipping costs can be huge).
What can I crochet with chunky wool?
You can crochet so many things in chunky yarn, I love chunky yarn like my
40 minutes beginners beanie hat
Quick and easy crochet cowl pattern
And it doesn’t just have to be limited to crochet accessories……

Tips for crocheting with super bulky yarn
My number one tip for crocheting with super bulky yarn is to make sure you have a yarn needle that will fit the yarn for sewing in those ends.
I can not recommend these needles enough for Super bulky yarn. They are different to a usual yarn needle, in that they have a plastic loop where the eye of the needle is.

How do you crochet a comfy sweater?
This sweater is made using a 10mm hook, and a LOT of yarn, but that’s why it’s so quick!
This project is a yarn eater, I won’t lie, but it’s super warm and super cozy.

Crochet Pattern Notes
Important Info
The jumper is made up of four separate rectangular pieces that are sewn together.
Sleeves are worked from shoulder to cuff.
Beginning 3 ch counts as a stitch throughout.
When Crocheting the front, if adding the heart motif – make sure the Contrast Colour is to the back when making the colour changes, this way the yarn won’t show
