Raindrop the Unicorn backpack

It had to be done.  The Pink one loves unicorns, I mean she’s absolutely besotted with them.  After Violet the Unicorn made an appearance in our house, I had another bright idea!

What every little girl needs is a bag, and a striking bag at that!  Thinking cap on, and a new wool delivery later, and Raindrop the Unicorn backpack was born.

Oh how I loved designing this, and then the joy on her little face when she saw it – worth every frogged stitch (and there were a few until I was happy with the result).  It’s been sat around for a while, as I was making sure the pattern was ok with a friend kindly testing it for me…… and I got the photos last week saying it was all good!

You need 2 balls of Stylecraft chunky, and 1 ball of a DK yarn, I used Cygnet Kaleidoscope yarn (1 ball)

3 crochet hooks in sizes : 6.0mm, 5.0mm and 4.0mm hooks

Toy stuffing

18mm safety eyes (two of them)

2 metal magnetic snap fastenings.

Needle and scissors.

The pattern is worked in a nice chunky wool for the bag and the unicorn.  As soon as I saw the raindrop yarn from Cygnet Yarns, I knew this had to be the mane and tail colour – so magical!  Instantly the unicorn had a name and an identity!

Mane, Tail, Straps and bag tie are all made from this yarn.

It works up absolutely beautifully – just look at how it changes colour subtly when doing star stitch.

The pink one loves her, and so do I!
