What was the first thing you learned to crochet?

What was the first thing you learned to crochet? Mine was a tiny flower just like these. I sat in front of YouTube for hours and hours trying to make one of these little things. I almost gave up - but luckily Mrs stubborn took over and finally after about 5 hours I “got it”.
So no one else needs to sit there for the whole day - I’ve recorded a very slow complete beginners video which is up now! Go check it out.
Also - I’ve updated my blog - new design, new categories - I’d love to know what you 🤔.

I wonder 🤔 how long it will take the French teacher to work out that when they open the document - the first thing google helpfully says is "Would you like to translate this page to English". 😂😂

It's Wednesday, its absolutely freezing 🥶 here, and I have finally typed up the pattern for this hat 🙌.

This is a rare picture of me (it's so much easier to post crochet pictures), for those that know me, I hate looking at photos 📷 of me - but this one I don't actually mind. Anyone else like this?

I can't face picking up a hook, and ideas for new makes are not very forthcoming either😢
I blame lockdown again, and that it's dark, and cold 🥶.

So, here is my "All the Stripes" jumper I made last summer from the wonderful Silcaress yarn from Cygnet Yarns Ltd which I've finally blogged 🖥 about (Link in bio 👆)!

Right - must try to be creative - any tips welcome...as there is only so much telly 📺 I can watch!!!!

One finished #kidsgrannygoround jumper modelled by “the pink one”. What a delight this pattern was to make from Claudine @iron_lamb . This is a perfect pattern for anyone looking to make a jumper, as you kind of get in a rhythm and all of a sudden it’s done! I can’t wait to make one for me now! (See some of the outtakes in my stories!)

I have had the absolutely pleasure of #patterntest

I have had the absolutely pleasure of #patterntesting the #kidsgrannygoroundjumper for @iron_lamb. This pattern is an absolute dream ❤️ to make, and took the weekend to get the bulk of it made - before #homeschool kicked in again! The pink one chose her colours 🧶(all @stylecraftyarns bambino and Bellini a) and off I went.... hook in hand. Viola...... a kids jumper age 9-10 (the biggest size) in a couple of days. We went for a longer jumper (pink one hates a cold bum).
P.s..... I have totally positioned this showing it finished when in reality I’ve got all the ends to sew 🪡 in...... anyone else do that?
P.p.s will get better pictures when it’s actually daylight at 2.30pm (storm Christoph has a lot to answer for).

New Free Pattern!!!!
I was sent some lovely Pure baby Prints yarn from Cygnet Yarns Ltd and I dived🤿 head first into Raglan top down jumpers 👕

(It seemed like a good idea a the time!!!).
A good few weeks of daily maths ➕➖ later..... and the little crochet sweater is LIVE.

As you work it in one section you can check it for sizing as you go! Made in one piece, then split for the arms. This is a great project to start with if you are new to top down Raglan sweaters.

And there we have it. The end of 2020 - a year that will be remembered for Covid 🦠, home schooling📚, a broken leg 🦴, and the most amount of home cooking🥘 I have ever done!

Interestingly my top 9 are all blankets, and mostly #grannysquare based! Like the #nobrainercal, and the #rainbowhexagon blanket.

So here's to 2021, when hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel for everyone. They'll be more crochet 🧶 from me - I predict 2021 to the be the year of #crochetjumpers for me. Stay safe and well everyone.

This is my latest design for @cygnet_yarns and boy is it perfect timing. It’s freezing 🥶 here. A kids hat and scarf set from toddlers to ten. Made with their watercolour yarn 🧶 and a 6mm hook this sets works up super quickly! Whoops........ it appears I've been absent on the grid for over a month 📅! That wasn't supposed to happen..... lets just say life got in the way of "Insta Life".... not even sure what I was doing as we are back in lockdown again...... but the kids are still at school 🤔 so it's not like last time.

Anyway - I've sat down in front of the computer 🖥, and finally managed to tell you all I've learnt on #colorpooling - what you should and shouldn't do (I learnt the hard way!).

Any tips you've got crochet 🧶 gems that you wish you'd known or would like to share? (The other big one I have..... sew 🧵 your ends in as you go!).

It’s not long now until Remembrance Sunday, so I’m posting this now - my free poppy 🌺 patterns. All can be found on my blog 🖥 if you fancy making a few. I’ve held free workshops for these the past few years donating money to the British Legion..... alas a nasty 🦠 is putting paid to that this year. Fingers crossed next year I might be able too!

It's Floral Friday today for the #yarnfriendsrock -so it had to be flowers 🌸🌺🌷! I love crochet flowers and experimenting with different yarns to get different effects. The massive pinky wavy flower is my own design (waiting to be typed ⌨️ up.........) and made with a brilliant mercerised cotton. For more flower patterns - head to my blog 🖥 - patterns and there is a whole tab of written up 🤭designs there.

The echinacea and the spiral roses🌷 are my patterns 📝 too (but these have been typed up 🙌 - go me!). These all went into making a summer wreath (that I'm yet to type ⌨️ up - doh ) - I'll pop a picture in my stories if you want to be nosey 👃.

Yarn Therapy today for the #yarnfreindsrock. This is a very rare picture of me teaching crochet 🧶. Rare because I can't take photos 📸 of myself, not because I haven't taught a lot!

I've been teaching people to crochet for about 4 years now, mostly adults, but some kids too. I love 💕the moment when crochet finally "clicks". It's even better when I get sent photos 📸 of the things people make when they get as hooked as me!

Covid 🦠 has stopped me teaching @themakerscabin currently (I look at how close I was here and gasp). I really hope to get back to it soon, as I really miss it. I've taught a friend by videos over lockdown 🔑, which has been great and seeing what she's been making daily is a great boost.

So Yarn Therapy - helping others get as much joy from crochet as I do.

This was my first lockdown project, which I eventually started in about April. The Hexirainbow blanket, which was great fun. You can read all about it on my blog 🖥 (click on the blankets menu) and get the #freepattern there too.

Colour Inspiration for todays #yarnfriendsrock prompt. I'd like to say I spend ages deliberating🤔 about colours, looking at colour wheels and assessing moods of all the combinations........ alas, I don't!

I tend to grab a load of yarn 🧶 from my ever growing stash and see what happens when I apply a bit of maths 🧮 theory.... in the case of this blanket - it was as simple as no 2 squares the same! The actual positioning of the squares then took some effort with #rainbows 🌈 (I still need to write 📝 this one up..... she says on repeat 🤫!)

Todays prompt is Reuse/ Recycle ♻️ for the #yarnfriendsrock challenge. So how about a 1 ball of yarn, organic cotton, reusable shopping bag which is surprisingly spacious!
