Ear Savers/ mask mates – Free crochet pattern

I’ve made a lot of these over lockdown for key workers, friends and family too.

But never wrote up the pattern (Sound familiar).

But with masks being made mandatory for a lot of people outside of the home, I’ve been asked a few times by friends what pattern I use.

They are great for people with hearing aids too! As they still wear their hearing aids – but stay safe at the same time.

Sizing – you can make them smaller (if your mask is too loose) or bigger (if it’s too tight) too.

So here you go.

Tips

Use the right hook for your yarn as stated on the ball band.

For longer or shorter ones – chain more or less (smaller = 17, larger 21 or x-large 23)

Buttons should be at least 2cm in diameter

Buttons should be plastic (so they can be washed)

Don’t sew your ends in – use these to sew the buttons on

Use cotton not acrylic yarn – it doesn’t stretch, and can be safely washed at 60 degrees C

Using your tails, sew on the buttons. You will need to move your yarn for the end where you’ve fastened off, just make a small stitch to move this to the end of the first row.
