I haven’t had a little play with these little hats for Innocent Drinks and Age UK for a while.
But while on lockdown, I thought I might as well have a go at making a few more designs.
25p for each hat made goes to this great charity.
I’ve got 17 other designs which can be found here.

Today it was the turn for ducks.
And 2 different types of ducks!
This one is all about the eyes, and how close together they are and the size of them!

Beak open and beak closed.
For both – a 3.5 – 4mm hook, DK yarn in yellow and white and orange.
The basic hat pattern can be found here
For the closed beak duck:
Make the hat in white/ cream yarn.
Beak (USA Terms)
5 ch, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, and
5 ch, make 1 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, 5 sc in the end chain, then turn and work back along the other side of the chain, making 1 sc in the next 2 chain, 4 SC in the last chain, ss to join.
Round 2-3: 1 sc in each st around.
To make up
Fold the beak in half and sew to the bottom of the hat on round 5-6.
Eyes – sew with black thread on round 4 just above the beak, 1 st apart.
Don’t fancy a duck – make a chicken instead
Open beak duck.
Make the basic hat pattern in yellow.
Beak (USA Terms)
Make a MR, 6sc in the ring.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around, fasten off. [12sc]
Using the tail, fold the beak in half and sew to the hat between rows 5 and 6.
Eyes – sew with black thread on round 4 just above the beak, 1 st apart.

Fancy pinning this for later – use the picture below.
