All around the world, people are drawing rainbows and putting them up in windows.
So how about a No sew Crochet Rainbow?
For our daily exercise, its great to spot these on the walk. We’ve spotted up to about 14 on our little walk which is less than a mile past houses, and a mile and a bit of fields and open countryside. They do add some welcome colour as well as giving a powerful message of Stay Safe and Stay home.
We’ve been on Lock down for just over a week now, and while I thought I’d have loads of time to crochet, its working out that I spend a lot of time helping with the school work, and not much time crocheting! When I do get to crochet, I’m lacking inspiration which is totally not like me!
So I jumped at the chance to make some of these little guys for the windows (We’ve already got a picture and button art on display…. but this being my house had to have yarn!)
Well today I wanted to do something a bit different that was
QUICK.
This little project is great if you have oddments of yarn left,
and even better if you don’t like sewing!
By this I mean sewing in ends and sewing together – as there is
NO Sewing!
These are pretty little rainbows are only about 12cm across.
I made this with the Pink one in mind, as I thought she’d like to help with the last bit of bead threading.

So without further ado – lets help spread some cheer in these dark and very uncertain times by all making some rainbows to brighten up peoples days.

Oddments of DK – I used Stylecraft, Lipstick (red), Spice (orange), Green Kelly Green (green), Royal (Blue) and Emperor I think (Purple) Cygnet Yarns DK – Sunshine (Yellow)
Beads – Pony beads bought from Amazon (there are loads to choose from).
4mm hook
USA Terms used.
Hint – to change colour do the last Yarn Over ( yo or yrh) with the next colour.
Row 1: With purple, make a magic loop, 3 ch (counts as a st throughout) and 5 DC in the loop (making the last YO of the 5th DC in blue). Close the loop. Turn. [6dc]
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 DC in the base of the chain, 2 DC in each stitch (making the last yo of the 12th DC in green). Turn. [12 DC]
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 DC in the base of the chain, 1 DC in the next st, * 2 DC in the next st, 1 DC in the next. Repeat from * until the last st, making the last YO of the 18th DC in yellow. Turn. [18DC]

Row 4: 3 ch, 1 DC in the base of the chain, 1 DC in the next 2 sts. * 2 DC in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts. Repeat from * around, making the last yo of the 24th DC with Orange. Turn. [24 DC]
Row 5: 3 ch, 1 DC in the base of the chain, 1 DC in the next 3 sts. * 2 DC in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts. Repeat from * around, making the last yo of the 30th DC with red. Turn. [30 DC]

Row 6: 3 ch, 1 DC in the base of the chain, 1 DC in the next 4 sts. * 2 DC in the next st, 1 DC in each of the next 4 sts. Repeat from * twice, 2 DC in the next st, 25 ch, 1 DC in each of the next 4 sts, ** 2 DC in the next st, 1 DC in each of the next 4 sts. Repeat from ** twice. Fasten off. Turn. [36 DC]
Tip: Leave your ends at least 6 inches (15 cm long to add the beads to them).
Thread the pony beads onto the tails, and tie the last bead to secure. We used the same colours as the tails (as my colour OCD couldn’t cope when the pin one tried putting different colour on each one!)
