Indigo – Geo-Boho CAL

A couple of weeks ago, I told you about my great new project with Cygnet Yarns, using their amazing Boho Spirit range of yarns.

Just look at this amazingly squishy yarn they sent me. This was a photo I could share a while ago….. but I was sworn to secrecy on the new limited edition colour (eeeekkk) made especially for this Crochet-a-long.

A white Boho Spirit solids that I know a lot of us were asking for!!!!

And Cygnet only went and made it! It’s limited edition, so get in quick!

The design

So how on earth did I decide what to make these great bold colours? And I really mean bold and Bright. This yarn has an intense colour that I have seen nowhere else!

You see Blue, well that indigo colour completely blew me away. It’s the bluest shiniest yarn I have ever seen.

The sheen on this yarn, I have taken well over 300 photos of this yarn, and I can not capture the sheen this yarn has.

That and the slightly fluffy texture to this yarn has made this project completely unique.

Why a blanket?

I knew we were timing this for later in the year, when the Autumn nights were drawing in and the weather was getting cooler here in the UK.

So this seemed like a perfect project.

I’ve made a good few blankets, ranging from ones getting bigger as you make them in rows, to squares that can be taken around as crochet on the go.

Knowing I was making this in the height of the British Summer months, it had to be squares sewn together.

There is no way I was going to be sat under a blanket making this when we got a record high of 38.6 degrees C in the UK…… although I did find the perfect place to crochet on the super hot days……… an ice rink!

How did I pick what yarn to make each square in?

It was an impossible choice to be honest.

My favourite colour is Blue, but then that Pink, and the Mustard, and well the Green, and then the Grey, and the Dusty Pink…… yep – my mind was all over the place!

But that Blue…… that Blue was just talking to me.

Why a crochet-a-long. Well the thought of making a huge blanket can be pretty daunting to anyone, but if you are using this to expand your crochet skills, then why not do it with a group of friends

I’ll give you the design on a Monday at 12 noon, and then you can make the 8 squares you need at your leisure over the week. You’ll get quicker with each square, and don’t forget to tag me

Onto the pattern, as I mentioned before this is a great blanket for learning some new skills, so today we start with a:

Indigo

Solid Granny Square Pattern

What you will need:

4.5mm hook

4.0mm hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Tension

Each finished square measures 21cm when blocked.

UK Terms

Ch (s)   Chain / chain stitches

ML Magic Loop

SS    Slip Stitch

Tr     Treble crochet (US double crochet)

Indigo Square – make 8

With a 4.5mm hook and Yarn A, make a magic loop.

Round 1 Ch3 (counts as a tr throughout) 1tr into ring ch2,  (2tr into ring, ch2) 3 times, 2tr into ring, ss to top of beg ch-3. [8sts]

Round 2  Ch3 1tr in next  tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp; * 1 tr in each of next 2 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  rep from * 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts]

Round 3  Ch3 1tr in each of next  3tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 6 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  rep from * 3 times, 1tr in each of the next 2 tr, ss to top of beg ch-3. [40 sts]

Round 4 Ch3 1tr in each of next 5tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 10 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp; rep from * 3 times, 1tr in each of the next 4 tr  ss to top of beg ch-3. [56 sts]

Round 5 Ch3 1tr in each of next 7tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 14 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp; rep from * 3 times, 1tr in each of the next 6 tr, ss to top of beg ch-3. [72sts]

Round 6 Ch3 1tr in each of next 9tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 18 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp; rep from * 3 times, 1tr in each of the next 8 th,  ss to top of beg ch-3. [88 sts]

Round 7 Ch3 1tr in each of next 11tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 22 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp; rep from * 3 times, 1tr in each of the next 10 tr,  ss to top of beg ch-3. [104 sts] Fasten off, weave in ends.

Round 8 Change to a 4mm hook, Join Yarn G where fastened off Round 7.  Ch3 1tr in each of next 13tr, (2tr, ch2 2tr) into corner sp; * 1 tr in each of next 26 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  rep from * 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [120sts]

Round 9 Ch3 1tr in each of next  15tr, (2tr, ch2 2tr) into corner sp;  * 1 tr in each of next 26 tr, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) into corner sp;  rep from * 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off, weave in ends. [136sts]

Just look at those stitches!!!

The definition of this yarn is just divine!
