Starburst Blanket Finished!

It’s time to finally show you the blanket that I made at the end of last year.  I’d made lots and lots of circles and changed them into squares which you can read all about in some previous posts I made.

The final layout was decided pretty quickly – before I could change my mind!

I like things ordered – a rainbow needs to be in rainbow order, so just making the squares has been a bit of a mental battle for me – but I’m super happy with the results.

The options for how to do this were endless – so me and the pink one  just went for it in the end.  We laid them all out on the rug, can you see the diagnol lines of rainbow?  (look at round 3)

Yep- my OCD for a rainbow appeared in diagonals!

We made piles of each horizontal line and bagged them up – labelled with what row they were,  ready for me to crochet them together.  I’ve always sewn things before – but this time I decided crochet was the answer – a simple single crochet together.

Luckily it’s winter, so the perfect timing for sitting under a blanket while making it!

Then for the border choice – now this was pretty tough too to decide.  I thought about doing one round of every colour in the blanket, starting with pink.

(Can you see my sunset square again!)

3 rows decided……… then 4.

But with the help of my Instagram followers – I stopped at round 5!  Probably at the right point too!

So……. after months of waiting – do you want  to see it?

I love this blanket, so worth the effort, and all of the end sewing in!  But’s so bright and cheery, and brings a huge smile to my face when I see it.  As predicted, I’m not the only one in my house that loves this blanket, the pink one has taken a shine to it, and takes it to bed with her quite a lot!

And a few close ups for good measure!

So what do you think?  Do you like my new blanket?

  1. Wow!! That is truly beautiful. What a lot of work. You have inspired me. I’m working on my first crochet blanket, a C2C. I like the idea of the squares so it is small projects to take around with me. The squares are put together so nicely. What stitch did you use to make it look so nice. Well done and you should be so proud of it. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thanks Lisa. It’s crocheted together with slip stitches I think – I was making something else at the same time – and one was single crochet, one was slip stitched!

  2. That is marvelous! I love it!! So cheerful and beautiful, pretty colours!! I’m feeling ashamed that I almost stopped working on my granny wheel square blanket, while you did such a great job! But your colours are far more prettier than mine… the next blanket I make will be one like yours! 🙂

    1. Thank you – sometimes big projects are daunting to us all! I had the yarn a long time before I decided what to make, maybe 4 months, then I just went for it! I’m glad its done now though!
